A few features including Passport are unavailable initially whilst we monitor stability of the new platform, we hope to bring these online very soon. Small issues will crop up following the import from our old system, including some message formatting, translation accuracy and other things.

I don't know, actually. I usually use the black active method, but this sounds like an interesting way of doing it. I think the main problem with it is that I think it's an HWA-only feature, so it might not work for all runtimes.
It would render slower on quite a minimal scale, however I would strongly recommend the 8x8 active > upscaled and semi-transparency being applied. This is the most optimised way of doing it. Fading a frame would mean the runtime having to fade the entire scene whereas the active method would be applying the fade to just on active, that is only 8x8 just upscaled to fit the frame.
