[REMAKE] ALEX KIDD in Miracle World - Tips/Tricks/Blog

Welcome to our brand new Clickteam Community Hub! We hope you will enjoy using the new features, which we will be further expanding in the coming months.

A few features including Passport are unavailable initially whilst we monitor stability of the new platform, we hope to bring these online very soon. Small issues will crop up following the import from our old system, including some message formatting, translation accuracy and other things.

Thank you for your patience whilst we've worked on this and we look forward to more exciting community developments soon!

  • Hi,

For lolz and because of Jeff encouriging Game Kits and a cold i have some time off and got this itch.

    Heres Screenshot 1

I have never worked with Global Objects or Global Events tho (always made game editor tools). Any tips?

Please login to see this picture.

When its done, i will release it as Open Source.

  • Awesome subject matter to work with. Is there any chance you are updating the art or just looking to make a 1:1 copy of Alex Kidd? As for your approach, games like this are made to be constructed with a level editor, not each level per frame. ;P

  • Yes. I been doing that my entire life, hence i lack the Global Objects / Events know-how. In this particular case, to the benefit of Click Fusion and its users, i wanted to make full use of its functions. Editors are generaly to difficult for entry-level users.

The fun of it for me is that it will be 1:1 as much as i can possibly make it. And is also a big time saver. People can take it from there... Create a spin-off. Implement a Editor. Change the graphics. And so on...

  • Thats what im trying to find out :p I am hoping to learn from the community! Global Objects and Events seem like a promising feature. I hope it does what i think it should do? Any tips on this?

    -edit-
Part of the reason of not using a Map Editor is because, like i am trying to point out, the idea is to DEMO the functionality already build into Click Fusion (The Frame Editor)
Im actualy happy that now that i am short on time, it is so easy to make a game! No frameworks. No code. No editors. +1

  • Ehm, I figured out that theres TONS of Platformer Engines...?! Theres a Mario Engine (1st on Google) Theres Sonic Worlds engine, and theres 2 Tutorials Kisguri proposed on Steam. (e.g. Please login to see this link.) And the DailyClick has tons.
I kinda feel theres no point in making yet-another-engine. I will see which one i can use for Alex Kidd, but then all in all, its only been about 3 days work to clone a complete game. Its to easy these days... no fun. Everything is plug'n'play. Meh. I need another challange...

  • Ok i run into an issue. Cant get the Loops to work. I used todo this in the past with FAST FUNCTION and FAST LOOP object. Worked great! But MMF (after 5 years) still does not support functions. It makes programming in MMF a pain in the butt. How is this done in MMF? Also, these 2 objects seem to have disapparead and/or are not supported for Exporters. So i need an alternative anyhow. But pixel-perfect detection is needed (hence loops) to prevent CLIPPING through obstacles when using high-speed values.

p.s. code is in the Behaviour of the purple object.

  • Finished the Platformer Engine. Now having issues with Animating. Seems like the DEFAULT animations are Hard-wired even to Static objects without a movement?

    Tips? Anyone?

Screenshot Engine with Directional Gravity and Wind Machine (Almost done with the game)

p.s. the ZERO's is the detection array (without objects) its done with Flags instead.

  • For lolz :p (Fire cape + Fuz-ro-dah helmet)

    NEXT: Ninja stars? & Chickens?

    Maybe i should add achievements?
Like destroy: 500 blocks. Collect 100 money bags. Etc..

    Feedback welcome pls!

  • Thanks for the replies!

So, is this no longer a tutorial or learning tool for platform engines?

It is. I have yet to decide what todo with the extra features but i will definitely release the base engine as a kit. (which i am still working on...)

    Meanwhile.. i added swords (experiment)

(Chances are i will release most of it, if not everything to the public!)

  • Small preview on the Profile Objects (Just clone the red ones, and give it another name+icon+values) And u have another gravity etc..

Please login to see this picture.

The blue object is the Runtime Engine, which reads the profiles. These can be changed on events e.g. Keyboard presses "1" or by purchasing the item.
Also im looking at making a new Camera system on the same principle.

  • Heres another sneak preview of the new Camera Engine i though up. You can already make this yourself. The idea is based on reallife:
    - You have a stand. This gets set as tho it where the Camera!
    - You have a camera. Center ONLY the frame scrolling (everything else you always do on the STAND)

Now, what has this as benefit?
    - Simply create a new animation and called it: Shake1
    - Swap the Hotspot arround for each frame
    - Play the animation. (Be sure to use the unchanged Action Point as Frame Scrolling center. If you do the Hot Spot, it wont show)

    Heres a shake animation playing:
Please login to see this picture.

TIP: Another way to randomize shaking could be to instead of adding a frame sequence, you offset the hotspot, then rotate it 360. And pick random directions for the duration its suppose to play. Then instead of using a sequance, CF picks a random direction which in turn has ur random hotspot.
Simply create 1 frame, then 360 it. Animating Camera Shake is now as simple as moving the hotspot!
