    Using isometric movement in games

    Hello all,

    my client has two games in mind that she would like to make. She would like to use isometric movement in both of them. She has sometimes tried it and she was following one of Sparckman's tutorials. She doesn't remember anymore how he did it. My client has tried to find information on the forum on how to do it. She has seen two examples of it on Nivram's site. However, they are too complicated and there are too many events in them. Sparckman's way was a lot more simple. Someone had linked this in another thread: http://www.create-games.com/forum_po...12707&show=all

    DistantJ's way didn't work at all. My client tried Sketchy's way and it almost worked but the active moved in two directions half a square and in two other directions one and half squares, instead of moving one square at a time. She doesn't know what's wrong with it. We will attach the file at the end of this post.

    1. My client would like to make some kind of wormgame. She has found the Follow the Leader example on Nivram's site. However, the segments of the worm are round and move freely. Here's a screenshot of it:

    She would like the segments to be square-shaped and to move in this way:

    She noticed that there are two edit boxes in the example file. She would like to know, what they are for.

    2. She has watched other than Clickteam videos to find ideas for making different types of games. She had found this tutorial:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZqaCHEia7A

    My client has tried to figure out how to make it with Clickteam. She has found the Pushablock example on Nivram's site. It works if you want to move actives only a few pixels at a time. She would like them to move one square at a time.

    Thanks in advance!

    We told in the first message that the thing that my client tried didn't work. We uploaded a file about it (Test3). My client saw a thread about other topic and someone had linked this website because of another file: http://andersriggelsen.dk/mmf2_examples.php

    My client noticed that someone had made a similar game as in the tutorial she had seen (Sokoban). She tried the functions in 2 different files but it didn't work. In one file the player object moves in a strange way and it also goes past the pushable box and in another file it doesn't move at all. She checked several times that the events are in both files the same as in the example file except for one small change. We are going to link the files at the end of this post. In the example file there are a lot of obstacles and places where pushable boxes cannot be moved anymore:
    Attachment 22855

    My client would like the player object to move in a larger area than the pushable boxes:
    Attachment 22856

    She was supposed to try it in 2 ways but it didn't work because the player object didn't move in a way that it was supposed to or at all:
    Attachment 22857

    Does someone know what's wrong with her files? Test3 in the first post and test7 and test8 in this post. Is there an easier way to do these things? And what about the worm game?

    Hey Cherryblossom,

    you have a lot of questions here, you'll probably have more luck if you try to tackle them one by one,
    you know, we're often busy with things and it's hard taking up such big requests!

    Starting from the beginning:

    1) you need a snake-like grid movement, within an isometric kind of setting
    I have a quick example of a snake-like grid movement here:
    http://lizardking.co/arch_clickteam_...rid%20movement
    (see second frame with "followers")
    perhaps this can help?

    2) to transform a standard topdown 2D view in isometric, you need some extra work.
    You can use the example above as a basis,
    and put the "isometric view" in another layer,
    by applying some math expressions to transform the 2D elements you are moving in the grid,
    into "isometric" figures moving in an isometric world, which would be different objects "paired" to basic objects you're moving on the grid.

    You'll find the formula
    which is basically this:

    //Cartesian to isometric:
    isoX = X - Y;
    isoY = (X + Y) / 2;

    and plenty of other informations on isometric games, on this article here:
    https://gamedevelopment.tutsplus.com...--gamedev-6511

    I'm not sure I followed your other requirements,
    if they were all supposed to be applied to same game (above)
    or is it a whole new game?

    I seem to understand you need to "push blocks" in a grid, one cell at time?
    Is it ok to apply this behavior to the example above?
    (you basically need to check when "head" of the snake is about to enter a "block" cell,
    and push the block to to same direction is going the "snake", if the destination cell is free,
    otherwise, stop the snake)
