no more "alt pausing"??

I'm used to pausing my app just by hitting the alt button, which goes up to the file menu in the process. Is this really no longer possible? It was such an easy way to pause a game!!

Well I COULD do that, but what happened to alt? Also, I just noticed something: Sometimes alt DOES work, sometimes it doesn't. Basically if the "F" in "File" is underlined (and the rest of the menu items have their shortcut keys underlined) then alt does the trick. But sometimes they're underlined, sometimes they're not. What the heck?
