    how do you normalize sound anyway? is that like a function you need to run or something?

    Every audio editor has a normalize function. It basically amplifies the file as much as it is possible without actually adding any distortion to it. Another approach, which sounds better, is to export the song directly from the music software at a higher bitrate (24-bit), and dither it down to 16-bit.

    But really, if you only have access to mp3's, or oggs, this is of no help at all. Since both formats are destructive, it makes absolutely no sense to process, change, or even convert them to another format (mp3 to ogg for example), since you'll lose even more quality. It simply isn't worth it.

    Any good musician, or person who have access to a non-encoded song, should know to either normalize or dither (in case of 24-bit) it before ogg encoding. Make sure you get music from one of them <img src="/center/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> If an ogg is too silent, the person who encoded it didn't quite know what he was doing.
