Stop asking for mp3, use winlame for ogg

I can't read a single thread without hitting:
'Gimmie mp3 support! I cant possibly use an opensource codec alternative'

    http://winlame.sourceforge.net/download.php

Winlame Pre-release 4, this will convert almost any audio type very quickly and its free.
For those who havn't converted music before, convert your files to .Wav then encode them as .Ogg, transcoding between compressed formats can be messy and you might distort the audio. It can handle batch processing so just drop an entire folder in and get it all done in one go.
Use the default quality setting (4 to 5) because I doubt your samples are of maxed out cd/ dvd quality. A 128kbs Ogg is about a 160kbs mp3.

    Good advice, I think.

MP3's are ideal for music to listen to on CD's and on say iPod or something. They are the opposite of ideal for games! So the point in having support for them, is void! If you want music higher quality then MIDI, then I agree with the topic, use OGG.

I don't think it could be said any clearer, but yet we are still going to have people begging for it.

What we really need is an SPC music system like on the SNES. At 64kb per song, it'd be well worth it. <img src="/center/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
