    How about a 1x1 black pixel in .GIF. Use the Active Picture, resize it and use the transparency? That won't even add 1kb to your project.

    That won't slow it down? Even in DirectX + VRAM

    Sorry if this is completely off topic, but you mentioned using DirectX because you had hi-res images. When's a good time to use DirectX and what advantages does it have over not using it? I noticed it slowed down immensly when transparency or ink effects appeared.

    Yea, DirectX + VRAM is really good for large images, but if you have any ink effects (apart from 'none' obviously) then it slows it down quite a bit.
