Collision Map?

I was working in MMF2 and I thought of an idea that might make a HUGE improvement to MMF2!

Collision maps! When working with an active object, you'd have color map (visual), alpha map (transparency), collision map (collision detection).

How this would work would be, by default. Collision maps will be anything visable. If you were to change the collision map though, it would from that point on, ignore the visual map, and wait for user imput. You could however, reset the collision map to default, and anything visual would be collision again.

Tell me what you think of this idea, personally, I'd LOVE to see it in a future build of MMF2, anyone else?

An active with the ability to designate collision rectangles per frame would be awesome, eliminatwe the need for invisible collision actives alot of the time, and would theoretically run faster than all the pixel perfect colission that is MMF's default.

    Re: Collision Map?

Another great thing it would fix would be things where you needed a full box collision, but you don't want to turn sensitive collisions off.

A GREAT improvement it would make on, would be platform game platforms. Being most of them use detailed grassy land, the grass often messes with the platform movement, so we end up splitting the grass up away from it as a non-backdrop. With collision maps, would could simply smooth the collision map out.

    Re: Collision Map?

I've been wanting this for the longest time. It's probably the top feature I would like implemented. I really thought something like this would have been implemented into MMF by now. Using seperate active objects for collision detection is pretty sloppy and probably slows the game down more than a built-in collision box would. Plus you wouldn't need all that extra code to make sure the two objects stay together and reference eachother(which is a pain when using duplicates).

    Re: Collision Map?

Yes this is something I have mentioned before, it is practically vital to making any type of complex active game IMO. Everyone rally together until it is implemented! We must march to the doors of clickteam with this!

This would make the BIGGEST improvment in MMF2!

And while they're on it, they shall give us functions to retrieve the x and y position of the action point!

    Re: Collision Map?

Collision maps would be so useful! They would make isometric games easier to make, as you would be able to just allow collisions with the feet and not the heads of your characters.
