Problem writing value to number array > returns 0

I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong here. <img src="/center/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

In the example file I have 2 arrays, 2 buttons, 2 string objects.
Clicking btn #1 writes a string to a string array which is shown in the string object. Works fine.
Clicking btn #2 writes a value to the number array which is shown in the second string object. Problem is it returns 0.

Why? My brain must be totally degenerated! <img src="/center/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />
This is so basic and I've done this kind of thing many times before without problems. Build 242.

Delete the existing array file (value), now try again.

So was the file "confused" or corrupt or what? Why did it happen?
