    Desperately need help! Global Enemies

    I am not one to go out and give my source file to the internet, but I am extreme need of help. For the past week or two, I have been working as hard as I could on this system in which you can see other enemies through the client and battle them. However my efforts are going completely unnoticed as MMF2 is being very unforgiving to my efforts, and continues to shoot me down, every single time I try something new or try something that seems full proof.

    I am seriously near giving up on this, because I am having so many issues that need to be solved, and I have no knowledge on how to fix them!

    Here are a list of issues that are showing up:
    Randomly (I think) it seems as those enemies will completely ignore their sensors and jump outside of the level, climbing the wall.

    Randomly (I think) enemies will lose the ability to 'hold' onto their sensors that keep them from climbing out of the level.

    Often when you destroy enemies on the server, the clients will periodically destroy more then just that one enemy, if not all of the enemies in the screen.

    Sometimes when you destroy enemies, all the clients connected, will forget to destroy the enemy, and all sorts of 'fun' stuff happens.

    Often enemies will not send (or receive, one or the other) information that tells them when to stop and move, resulting in what looks like lag, when it's actually not.


    If someone could please check into the source file and try to patch up these issues, I would be more then grateful, as I am literally being pushed to my breaking point.

    Please note that I take full rights over all the sprites in the game, and they aren’t to be used elsewhere.

    PS: Everything is commented in depth, including what all the flags are, and what all the sub-channel uses are, so you can spend less time learning how it works, and more time finding out what's wrong.

    Again, I would really appreciate it if someone could lend me a helping hand here, I am in major need of help.

    Hi BrandonC,

    I hope someone with actual experience with the online stuff can help, as I have none. <img src="/center/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> However, are you sure your issues have anything to do with that. Your troubles have the all too familiar ring of the tough time many people have trying to keep track of which enemy (assuming there's more than one instance going on at once)is the one you want to effect.... Maybe you sould try and get your game level working perfectly offline, then take the next step? Just a thought.

    Yes that would be my advice also.
    Get the offline game working perfectly then move it to online.

    Thanks, unfortunately that completely contradicts what everyone with online game design experience tells me. They claim that you need to intergraded online into the game while it's being made, especially to avoid problems having to completely rip the game apart, in order to get the online stuff working correctly.

    I agree. They are very right... an online game is online game, and an offline game is offline. However, it would be advisable to get certan engines running before adding the online stuff.
