    Try using the "start" command, it seems to me less complicated than the CMD and also supports file associations.

    I quikly read the help and seems to me that if you launch "START myfile.doc", it automatically launches Word and opens myfile.doc

    You can also use the Open URL action of the Vitalize! Plugin object. In stand-alone applications it opens the program associated with the file extension.

    You can also open a file with "The Big Box Object"

    I haven't tested it, but I know it has an action that can do this.
