    Emailing

I am using the Email object to send an email through an SMTP server that I am running on my computer - but I have a router - do I need to configure it somehow to get it to work? And if so, how? Any support is appreciated, Thanks!

I am asuming that an SMTP server means you dont have to use a website or something to get an email sent but do correct me if I'm wrong because I am very new to all this!

Yes, an SMTP server is a "proper" email server, that doesn't use standard "internet" (www/http website etc). Being behind a router shouldn't matter, but it sounds like you are running your own smtp server on your own machine, which is a bad idea. To run your own smtp server you either need a domain set up for it (which is pretty impossible if you're on a home connection) or you need to tell it to forward the email to another smtp server that is on the internet, when you could just use that other smtp server.

Most email services have an smtp server, but most "free" email services (eg hotmail yahoo etc) need you to get a paid account to use smtp. (I didn't check if hotmail or yahoo need you to pay, they're just examples of free email services). Almost every email service that comes with an internet connection (eg BT, ntl, etc) -only- has smtp.

Webhosting packages these days are dirt cheap and throw in email as part of the package, I'd invest about £5 a month in a good hosting deal. Get a domain 'for free' with it and away you go.

Check with your service provider you may not be able to have outbound connects on port 21 on some ISP accounts. I know I am blocked so I can't get the SMTP server to connect out. You may have the same problem.

This was done by my ISP to prevent peoples computer being taken over and becomming SPAM machines.

When I use SMTP I must connect to my ISP's site.
