Is there a reason why the ALT key can't be mapped as a player key?
Every PC-game uses it, why can't we?

Wow. I've wondered the same thing for so long but I didn't think of asking it here! Strange thing.
And what would be even better? If we'd get our question answered![]()

Every pc-game uses the alt key?
I don't know why its not able to be mapped but I would guess when Yves or Francois gets a chance I am sure they will look into it and tell us why or why not it can be changed.
I guess it's because you can access the menu bar with an alt+? keyboard combination in Windows.
That's probably also why pressing alt currently pauses any mmf application (even if a menu does not exist).
I'm not saying that it's right, it's just the reason I guess it was programmed this way. But the suggestion makes sense as not all applications uses the menu bar.
I've never seen a game that uses the alt key for anything these days though. Wasn't that back in the DOS era? Now the windows key is positioned so close to it, that if both ctrl and alt is used in game keyboard mapping, the Win key is easily pressed by accident.
There is an alt key on the other side of the keyboard you know...
I use it in SuperTux. I set alt to jump and spacebar to run.
I usually have my Windows key deactivated since I find it's the most stupid invention after the scroll key.![]()
BTW is there an MMF-Object that can activate/deactivate the WinKey at runtime?
Why should a game not use the ALT key? Many games deactivate it so it won't matter if you press it accidentally.

The microsoft windows application guidelines (or some name like that) specifically forbid any app disabling or using the windows keys, alt keys, or key combinations for their own purposes. Most games allow alt-tab to work even if alt is bound as a key, to "kind of" follow this rule.
Also, even without a menu bar you still have the alt+space menu (can get at it normally by clicking on the program's icon, right clicking on its title bar or right-clicking on its taskbar entry).
That's why I still use my age-old keyboard. It has to be at least ten years old now. Sadly, it's age is starting to show...Now the windows key is positioned so close to it, that if both ctrl and alt is used in game keyboard mapping, the Win key is easily pressed by accident.
Anyway, I, too, would love to be able to use the alt key simply for the sake of having the option.
Didn't MMF1 have an object that could block the alt key?
Yeah, it makes sense to have the option to use it, despite that I wouldn't really recommend it in games, just like I don't recommend Shift because of the XP sticky keys feature (yeah, it can be turned off, but a lot of people who will play your game doesn't know how to). Real men (not to mention Real women, although they statistically tend to do more meaningful things than playing computer games) use letter keys![]()
