    MMF2 CDs having trouble?

I've noticed that the two MMF2 cds aren't functioning very well.

When I first got MMF2, the main application disk (disk 1) didn't work when I installed it (got an error saying "Windows cannot read the disk, or it's not in a format that Windows can understand" or somesuch error).

I then tried disc 2, to see if that may jolt it into action. Disc 2 worked, so I tried disc 1 again and it worked this time. That's when I installed MMF2.

It had no problems using the CD later to verify Build 242 (that worked on the first attempt).

Verifying build 243 was a bit trickier. I tried inserting disc 1 several times, and each time got the same disc read error. So I tried disc 2 (as I had done before), and that disc also would not read.

I tried a copy of Baldur's Gate (a PC game), and that disc launched first time. So it seems not to be a problem with the drive itself, it's certainly not in the habit of returning read errors.

I tried MMF2's disc 1 again and this time it's worked smoothly.

Could it be that I just have some temperamental discs?

If Clickteam need it, I can verify that I did purchase it by giving my serial code and a copy of the emailed invoice.

EDIT: Even though the disc is recognised by windows now, it's now returning a 'The disc is not formatted properly' error when I try and verify it to install build 243.

If you have access to a CD-burner (or several), try copying them and see if the copies works better (or if the copy fails). You could also try one of those drive cleaners (or a CD cleaner) and as a last resort get replacement discs.

When I'm next in the office, perhaps I can try running the CD on a work PC (without installing MMF2 of course).

Yes i would try that Dines, as in the past i had a CDROM that would run some programs and not others... i found that it was the CDROM drive that was the problem.

Your laser may be on the way out or there may be dirt in the focus mechanism stopping it from moving. I have a couple of compaq cd-rom drives that be have exactly like that.

It all depends on whether it loads easily when I take the CD to work, I guess, lol. My machine is quite old (got it in my last year of sixth form, and I'm 20 now) so it's kind of ready to die. But it's not had this problem with any other CDS, then suddenly to have it with both MMF2 ones, kinda seems odd.

CD formats have changed over time, older machine can have trouble reading the new formats. This is something I've noticed with readable. Like you I've got a number of generations of machines.
