Layer trouble

1)I've noticed there's a "visible at start" checkbox in a layer's property box, but I can't seem to find the action that turns it visible or invisible on runtime.

2)When a frame starts, the layers are rendered from back to front, and even with a fade in, I can't avoid the 1-frame-flash of the back layer's contents. Is there a way to fix this? Otherwise, I'm trying something with the first matter.

You have to use the Layer object to alter layers (including scrolling coefficients and visibility) at runtime - drag it in from the New Object dialog.

As for 2, I'm not actually sure about this either - I know that in my latest project it happened on some frames and not others, but I couldn't see a pattern.

Or does something have to be checked or activated before turning a layer visible or invisible?
