    Animated Gif to Active

Is MMF 2 developer supposed to be able to import gif animations right into an active object? My success rate is very, very low, maybe 1 out of 100. Or is there some trick to it - converting first to an avi file or chanting some ancient indian rhymes. Any help appreciated.
