AVG Antivirus claims MMF2 files to be trojans..

Latest antivirus defenition from AVG seams to screw with MMF EXE files.

Actually, it claims that all MMF2 and MMF files that is made as EXE's are infected by the trojan Trojan.Generic2.RRH.
However, I am quite sure this is false. Some of my EXE's are built for years ago and still claims to be infected even since they are on a fileshare that is on a remote (linux) server.
One of the supposed infected files is AddObtainer from Punshisoft and that one was installed for perhaps 6 months ago and during several earlier scannings no virus was found - I find this as a good evidence that it is clean and that the virus definition file is wrong.

It seams more likley that some part of MMF and MMF2 code is simular looking to the AVG triggering code that it uses to check for this trojan.

AVG seams to have bit high "false positive" rating in general..
I think it is good for you all to know this if concerned users contact you. I am quite sure that this is yet a more false positive generating virus definition file from AVG.

Never had false positives with AVG before, and it isn't detecting MMF2 EXE files as any kind of virus either.

    Update:
Have tried to scan this files with both Antivir and Symantec and they are clean according to them.
Quite sure that AVG's virus def is wrong.

Re: AVG Antivirus claims MMF2 files to be trojans.

Perhaps I was a bit unclear:
It seams to think that program built with MMF is trojans.
    Not MMF itself.

I have had more than one AVG false positive before. One file that was supposedly infected with a virus, even when new installed from install program. Next virus defintion, AVG claims that the same file is clean when I reinstalled it with the same install file...

My opinion is beginning to go towards that AVG is more crap than good. False positives is almost as bad as not finding virues at all and it scares the hell out of users...

Re: AVG Antivirus claims MMF2 files to be trojans.

I have had NO false positives with MMF executable files or MMF itself, and I have been a happy AVG user since 2002. I just updated my virus definitions and did a full scan of my computer, and I got no reports of viruses at all.

Also, you say you have AVG, Antivir AND Norton? Doesn't sound good to me. You do know that they conflict with each other right?

Report the false positives to AVG.

    I know this.
But, you can have more than one computer, right?

Re: AVG Antivirus claims MMF2 files to be trojans.

I remember when I used avg ages ago it sometimes gave false positives on mmf 1.5 programs. I've been a happy user of Avast! Home (free) edition ever since I switched to 64-bit and AVG wanted me to become a pro (paying) customer to continue using it.

Avast home requires you to sign up (free) to get a 2-year key though, but they don't seem to do anything with your email address other than send your key, and you can just sign up again in 2 years for another. I guess they just want a semi-accurate count of how many users they have.

AVG just popped up and said it deleted two of my game's executables. Yay.

This is where we need to go complain to AVG about false positives.

    I have sent an email.

They need to see the error in their software is serious and needs to be corrected ASAP. We can talk about it here all day but I doudt AVG reads these forums so I need people to email them.

Otherwise its just me and they won't see it as a serious problem.

I have sent emails to the sales support address since there is no way to email them without a serial number.
