MDI docked frames and resizing?

I really don't know what it's called, but you know how in MMF2 your windows are connected when maximized, and then you can click and drag the frame borders to resize your workspace how you want? Can I do this using MDI? If so, what's it called?

I've tried resizing docked MDI sidebars and MMF2 gets a bit buggy, especially if the sidebar has a display surface.
