    Rich Edit - transparency?

I really can't stress enough, for the sake of others too, how much this is needed. I have been told that - when used with String Parser 2 - Rich Edit can do quite a lot, and that's without the slowdown that other extensions would cause. Plus, there's no other text extension that supports formatting.

The only problem with Rich Edit is, the background of it has to be set to a colour. There is no way it can be made transparent. Would it really be that difficult for Clickteam to update the object? I'm sure this would fix a problem for so many users...

Rich Edit is a Windows control (IIRC) and so there's very little Clickteam could do about it.

Oh right. I see... I guess nobody's going to want to spend their time making another extension to fix this, and I don't really blame them, so I guess my problem is unsolvable. Please don't recommend Text Blitter - it seems like a good extension but it's so laggy.

    Re: Rich Edit - transparency?

Hmm... I've answered this thread and my post has disappeared.

I'll take a look, but there are several issues, that depends if you want your Rich Edit object to be editable or not. If we had a "transparent" option and you want your transparent Rich Edit object to be editable, then it must be placed over a static background (for example an active object couldn't move under it) (because refreshing the object would take too much time I think). If the background can change, then the text shouldn't be editable and in this case we would have to create a new Rich Text object that uses the routines of the Rich Edit object to display the text but is displayed like an active object. So it's probably possible, but there is no unique solution that would solve all the problem.

    Re: Rich Edit - transparency?

Thanks for your reply Yves - I appreciate it. As I'm primarily a game developer, while it'd be a good feature, editable text isn't so necessary.

Basically, I've heard it's possible to make the text bold in certain places using tags or something similar via String Parser 2. (I've never used String Parser 2, so if I'm babbling rubbish let me know). I just want it so text can be bold in certain places, or have different colours in one string. I was told this can be achieved with String Parser 2.

Most of my games involve scrolling, so it would indeed have a moving background behind it. Hopefully I explained the problem well enough, and if you can think of any way to get past this then I'll be very thankful.
