Anim editor with empty dir 0

Is it so that if direction 0 is empty (no image) it will automatically change to show the next direction with an image?
If I try to force it to an empty frame it ought to show nothing. Or am I thinking wrong here?

MMF2 actively prevents you showing directions that don't exist, and I think it defaults to the nearest one instead (although I'm not sure what happens with an entirely transparent frame).

Is there a reason you can't use "Make invisible/reappear"?

No, there is no reason at all, I already use another approach. I just want to find out if it is me or the app.
