    Collision detection

    Screenshot

This screenshot is from the game I am currently writing. The version shown runs in MMF1.5 where I have a nice effect going with the red lasers when they collide with an enemy craft.

However this file has recently been imported into MMF2 and I simply cannot replicate this effect as I wish since the new collision engine (it seems) throws the location of the "disappearing" animation, fails to run disappearing animations of less than one frame so that I have to have two impact effects and will not display the animation consistently.

This problem is caused since the beam is moved via Y-Position setting in the Event Editor, which the new MMF fails to take into account.

Any workaround suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Could we get an example MMF1.5 file that has this problem once it's imported into MMF2? You stand much more chance of things getting fixed if clickteam have something to test.

    Re: Collision detection

Yes, certainly - I think Yves already has one as I needed some help getting it open in MMF2.

I've uploaded both CCA and MFA files to my shared hosting for people to take a look at.

    CCA File (20.9 MB)
    MFA File (19.6 MB)

My thoughts are that the collision engine in MMF2 needs to take into account movements done by the event editor. This is still the only way (it seems) to move an object at a speed faster than 100. The problem is (as you will see) that the engine sometimes fails to show disappearing animations that are less than 2 frames in length and that when it does - the animations are shown at a distance from their intended location.

No amount of tweaking on my part has made me able to re-create exactly the desired effect evident in the CCA file.

I suggest strongly that a patch be released in future for MMF2 that addresses this issue and sets this aspect of collision handling back to how MMF1.5 managed it.
