    Web site hosting nd MMF?

This is a two or three part question. How is hosting a website handled? I know it is hosted by a server that is perpetually on, the server being a computer ith the site's files on it, but if I were to host a site from my home, how would I set up the files on the 'server'(a second computer of mine solely for the site)? The reason I posted in the clickteam forums is because I thought maybe I could make some sort of hosting application in MMF2. I have no idea, but I thought I couldf incorporate moosock somehow. Or do I evenf needfa hosting app? Any help, redirection, anything, would be great?

Well, there was an old example of a hosting app in mmf but it is very likely to be unstable and unreliable. Your best bet is to go with apache which is one of the most common webservers and its free. If you intend on using php, mysql, perl etc etc and more... you should try XAMPP, it will install and set them all up to work together (which is annoying if you ever try!!): http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html

hosting app in MMF2 ? You can try, it would be vunrable to all kinds of exploits, slow, crash frequently and lack even the most basic forms of security, and you wouldnt have PHP support unless you used the CGI exe which is another huge security flaw.
Start off with xampp, it is basic and shows you what is possible (NOTE: it is designed for testing and stuff, NOT FOR USE ON A LIVE PRODUCTION SERVER!) but if you want to host a site on the net, best to use a decicated host, you can get hosting for £5 / $5 a month these days, they will have a much better internet connection that you as well which makes it even more worth-while.
If you do decide to host your own server, your security will be weak unless you know about how to secure servers and will be very prone to getting hacked / getting viruses. This may sound stupid but the best ways to learn security is to learn how to hack and hack your own server, or wait for people to hack your server from google searches and fix the problems, or get people to find holes in your setup for you

Re: Web site hosting nd MMF?

Setting up webhosting is fairly simple thing to do, get a pc, put linux or windows server on it, enable webhosting. Briefly the simplest way.

NK is right about MMF, it's a bad way to go. Also a hosting company is your best bet, they have dedicated server boxes that are directly hooked up to the backbone internet connection of that country. That is the main pipeline that can give any amount of bandwidth that you will require. (you just pay more for it).

NK is correct about getting someone to hack your server as well. It would be best to get a dedicated host. Although not everyone has money at their disposal... in which case you may have to run it from your own pc. Virtualisation is another way to go which minimizes the risk of security holes by only affecting the virtual machine and not your own. Check out VMWare - search on google

or virtual PC 2005 or virtual server 05 from MS, they are free to get.
If you have a decent PC with no OS, you could get VZLite and it would be running proper linux, much better and faster than an windows program can
