    Changing screen resolution

I'm using the Big Box object to change the screen resolution. What I'm trying to achieve is a way to keep the display at the proper aspect ration to avoid stretching, and if needed, have a letterbox appear on the sides. The problem I'm having is finding a valid screen resolution.

For example, the game runs at 1024x768 (4:3) but my monitor's resolution is 1920x1200 (8:5). So by my calculations, the height stays the same, but the width needs to be 1228.8. Now I know that's not possible, so how do I find the next biggest resolution that the monitor can resize to without stretching?

    Re: Changing screen resolution

    Top of Wish List:
Stretch or squeeze either but not both x or y of application resolution to fit current display.

Screen ratios are an ongoing problem for me, and particularly at the moment. I am also working on a 4:3 MMF2 project (1280 x 960), full screen and without a menu.

I love MMF2’s pixel-perfect accuracy and have been in awe of Clickteam’s dedication since the days of AMOS and Klick&Play but as screen resolutions increase, artwork needs to be produced in higher resolutions to compete and retain credibility. As a visual artist, getting the picture right is essential for my work (and play!).

I have not been able to create a one-size-fits-all application in MMF2 that retains the application’s aspect ration on conventional 4:3 monitors, widescreen monitors (such as the majority of current laptop screens), and dual displays (which I use primarily).

Dual display is not the real issue. However, ‘change resolution mode’ on a dual display works satisfactorily shutting down one monitor if 4:3 but where the application is widescreen and more pixels wide than one monitor, the application is stretched across both screens if this is the dual monitor setting.

The real issue is resolving either/or widescreen/4:3. If you don’t mind your application being squeezed or stretched, one option as a compromise is to design your applications in 14:9 as TV broadcast does. Alternatively − and as I do with my video projects − assume that widescreen is now universal (or will be within the foreseeable future). However, this means your work will be compromised on all 4:3 and some 4:3 dual displays.

This post is a plea for help as if this issue remains unresolved, I will have to think seriously of re-producing my work in vectors and Flash (help, scream!).

You are probably going to have to use flash as mmf and dual screens is just not working for me.

Unfortunately, I may have to resort to Flash. But I'm keen to keep trying in MMF2. What are you trying to achieve with dual display?
