Game keeps going jumpy on my computer

I'm not quite sure if this belongs here, if it doesn't, sorry... it's not about creating a game actually, it's that I play them, and certain ones from MMF seem to not be working, which is strange since one of them which presumably was made in MMF works fine. The difference is the two that don't work are side-scroller platformers, while the one that does has a more unconventional gameplay.

What happens is that, usually when I'm attacking the first enemy (but once it happened while I was trying to skip the introduction), the music suddenly starts to play like a broken record and the game slows until it's essentially moving frame-by-frame, one little jump at a time.

On another forum someone said it was because I have two cores (I honestly don't know a heckuva lot about computers, he said something about "hyperthreading" and said that screws up some programs) and gave me something that would switch the program to only one core.

    Didn't help.

Any idea why this would be happening or how to fix it?

I'm sure it's just my game (I am the one who made the game in the pictures) that uses too large frames/perspective and effects. How that relates to music, I don't know.

The game seems to want to run slow on my new computer as well sometimes, even if I made it.

I would say it depends on your actions, heavy loops might increase processer power while standing around in your game might lower processor usage

Yeah, I know, I downloaded Chalk too, in fact that's what I was referring to: Chalk seems to work perfectly fine on this computer.

It's not just that it runs slowly, it's essentially unplayable. It's completely counter-intuitive to... you'd think that on a newer, faster computer there would be FEWER problems...

Anything that can be done to fix it?

Re: Game keeps going jumpy on my computer

There will be some updates later this year to the products that may help it run better on every computer.

If you can narrow down and create some test files for Yves and Francois that reproduce the problem with the minimum of events and fluff I am sure they will take a look and figure out whats happening.

Beyond making sure all your drivers are up to date I don't know what else you can do to fix it on your computer. I don't really know why it would do this.

This problem seems very odd. Does it happen on other machines?

As the game is progressively slowing down, I would say that the problem is probably in your events, for example if by mistake you create the same object again and again at each frame loop (have you checked the number of objects in the debugger window?). But the problem with the music is very odd... as the music is played in a timer based routine.

Re: Game keeps going jumpy on my computer

The thing is, I have no idea. What I'm saying is, I don't make the games, I play them, and I just happen to know that the two that are glitching up were created by other people in MMF, and both worked fine on my older machine.

You know what, it's really weird, I just opened the game again to see if I could check the exact nature of the problem again, and it's working perfectly, I'm well into the first level now. Very weird o_O
