Formatted text or Rich edit object

I can't seem to get any text to appear in either of these. All I am doing is loading these from a file and trying to display them.

Anybody have any ideas?

The rich edit object works fine for *.txt (files - load ascii text) but the formatted text object requires *.rtf files, otherwise nothing is displayed. and before you can insert a string, you have to select all text, or word num or something.
