Slowly shifting from color to color

Does anyone know of a good way to slowly change from random color to random color. Right now, I'm using this , but its choppy and doesn't work very smoothly. I think there might be a way to do this using the Gradient Calculator extension, but I'm not entirely sure.

I made a example that doesnt use extensions.
All that it does is interpolate between a start color and a random one.

You were on the right track with your example though.
