    Patch Problem

The patch program for the new build is REALLY slow. I got impatient after it wouldn't read the CD for like 5 minutes. But windows reads it just fine, and so does Virtual Cd. So I ended up making a Virtual CD of the mmf2 disk, then using that for the CD.

Does this bother any one else?

Seems like your having lots of issues with your computer. When was the last time you had a full virus scan?

You should also scan your disk.

EDIT: I mean the scan tool in the properties of your drive.

    Friday.

I haven't defragged in... ever. Maybe I should give that a try.

But this was a problem on my old computer as well.

    Re: Patch Problem

I agree with yves about running scandisk/checkdisk.

Also, you say you had this problem with your old pc too. Is there anything the same between the old and new pc? Same cd drive etc.

Are you overclocking? Most people who do don't run a thorough stability test and then complain when their pc doesn't work right or crashes.

That's all I can think of for now.

EDIT: Look at the bottom of the disk. Are there any scratches or fingerprints, or any "smudges" in the disk itself (manufacturing defect)? It's possible that the disk is damaged. Do you still have the problem if you burn your virtual copy of the cd to another blank disk?

    Re: Patch Problem

In fact I can't install the patch at all. It just quits at some point and doesn't say why. Gotta try again now..

EDIT: Okay, here's a closer description of the issue. I start MMF2 (version R245), it tells me there's an update and asks if I want to install it. I say "sure why not" and it starts downloading. So that download dialog shows for a while and then disappears.
That's it. No MMF2, no patch, basically a crash to desktop without notice.

EDIT2: Okay, I gave it another try, this time starting MMF2 first and then selecting "Check for update" from the menu. Again it asks, I say "go for it" and it starts downloading. I checked my firewall and it shows me that actual stuff is being downloaded. After maybe a minute, MMF2 says "The application has to be closed to install the update" or something along these lines. I say "sure" and it closes and is gone for good.

EDIT3: The apparent solution is to go to this thread and to download the patch there.

    Re: Patch Problem

Lol, mine doesn't download period! It might be my firewall though. I'm not too worried about that.

There are a few scratches on the disk, but nothing that would keep the disk from running. It worked fine when I made a virtual disk out of it.

    Re: Patch Problem

Thanks for the info Random, I can reproduce this issue with Vista. I thought it was fixed but apparently the fix doesn't work. I'll try to find another solution.

LazyCoder, just for info it seems the progress bar is not updated while the program is downloading the patch, you have to wait 1 or 2 minutes. I'll try to fix this one too...
