    Scrolling causing freezing!

    Hi there,

I've just run into a really perplexing bug. I'm just trying to put in scrolling on my map screen, but whenever I try and scroll right, the program locks up completely. If anyone could help me figure out how to fix this, that'd be awesome!

Oddly, it doesn't freeze if you set the game to 50 fps, or if you first scroll down a bit and THEN scroll right.

To scroll left or right, just move the mouse to the edges of the screen. To scroll up or down use the arrow keys. Here's the file:

    Thanks!

egads!! i think your method is bad for what you want to do, try having your camera attached to an object and have it float to your mouse pointer on the x plane.

I had to do CPR on my computer! Something is adding to the engine and eating up resources at an incredible rate.

But that's the weird thing, it IS attached to an object that scrolls when you need it to. And yeah, sorry about that, it really does eat up resources for some weird reason.

I did some testing and found out that if I disable the group called Overworld something... It works

O.k. so what's eating the resources? It's crazy.

It seems like it's freezing it's really not the computer just can't crunch the numbers fast enough. How are you doing your backdrop? Are you loading it in from an external source? It seems like something is loading over and over again, how is your save routine handeled?

Overworld=problem, how ever this is working I think that is the problem.

I don't know, I had no problem with it freezing but then I have an AMD Athlon 64 X2 which probably means it's too much of a burden on the computer itself for some reason for you guys at least.

    Re: Scrolling causing freezing!

Thanks for pointing out it was the Overworld group of events guys - I managed to narrow it down to the speech bubble object, and, well, fiddled round with some stuff until it decided to fix itself.

    Cheers for the help!
