If you don't know where your copy came from, I'd be very wary about using it. It's obviously not a version from Clickteam. Pirate copies of popular software are often sold or spread containing a nasty payload planted by the unscrupulous. Personally I would not risk it.

I think if your friend has spent any money on this software and you suspect it is not a legitimate version (past or present), then they might want to go back to the seller to inquire further.

However, all is not lost if you want to get into this powerful software. Go to www.clickteam.com and click on the purchase menu to get a real and latest version of the software (all payment methods are explained there).

MMF2 standard would suites most peoples needs, but if you're tight on a budget, The Games Factory 2 is a good introduction at a fraction of the price. There is a good upgrade path you can follow later should you decide to do this.

If you're still not sure though, the demo is there to try. You can't install the patches or extension bonus packs, but you can still try everything out. Hope that helps

Go thru the shop and select to order via fax/mail
Get email sent to you

Go to paypals and send a payment to regsupport@clickteam.com
With the reference number from the email
