    Mooservers.com - awakening?

    Hi guys,
I have been away from the forums for a while.

First, i get quite some PMs about Fantasaar.com.
Fantasaar is not comming back. Tough i very much liked to work on it, i don't want to be resposible for kids getting addicted to the game. And on the otherhand, there is so much todo in life, i just had to make priorities :-( My business is keeping me busy also. Lots of clients to serve, lol.
It was a pain to abort this project, but i had todo it.

Anyways, JasonDarby shared that Mooservers.com was a good initiative, and asked if it will come back. Also i noticed a few requests on the forums for "Moo Server Hosting".

This is my plan in rescue :-P
    -----------------------------
I wouldn't mind putting Mooservers.com back online and be the first to offer MooServer Hosting as an awnser to those who need it.
MooServer Hosting on the otherhand will not be free... imagine all the security, bandwith, serverpower, etc... i need to cover.

So, beside the free Monitoring service, the free Moo GameKit, and the Serverlist Kit, i will provide some freaking good MooServer hosting.

    That would look like this:
You get your own domainname (like: myproject.mooservers.com) on which your individual server is hosted. Just compile it with your MMF copy, upload it, and there you go.
You will receive your own username and password to upload, stop and start your own server. I will look into remote management also, so you can remotly see whats going on at your Moo Server. (That b.t.w. can totaly be coded by yourself as you would do now.)
The costs will be only a small $10 a month.
There is no bandwith limit. (there is, but its so big that your not going to reach it... and "if" you do, then we just contact you and we can talk about it)

I can garantuee an uptime of 99.5% throughout the year. But for now all our webservers have been running 100% up. Something about the speed: That will be arround 12.5MB a second. Thats something else then the 512Kbit (which is about 0.5MB) your ISP may be providing (or less) :-)
So no more worries about laggy games. These types of servers and networks will make online-gaming actualy fun. All servers are hosted in The Netherlands - Amsterdam.

I do have a requirement before i set this all up. That is 10 people taking MooHosting for at least 1 year.
After that they are free to leave. And ofcorse, when i cannot meet or fullfill my promises you can leave any moment.
If there is not that least interest, i will not return services. I hope you understand.

    Best regards,
    Patrick

whow, sounds good but your definately gonna need the security, else people will upload viruses and things you dont want. Probably best to get MS virtual server 05 and run the servers off that, its free and all you need is a default image of the server os (obvesly you need a multi-license) and if someone uploads a virus, it will only affect that image file, no other files on the real os would be touched and it would not affect any other users, then you can stop that image file from running, remove the image and make a copy of the backup image for a new user. Thats how I would do it

I'd get the user to upload the MMF2 file so you can build the server yourself and see the code.
I wouldn't allow exes to be uploaded.
Who's supplying the servers that's crazy speed?

Hmm 12MB is your up speed? Are these servers actual dedicated boxes that are directly linked to an NL backbone? Or are they sitting in your front room and your ISP is going to want to kill you after a few months?

If they are on a backbone surely an 100MB+ direct conn is possible? All comes down to cost mind, but surely it's worth looking up?

Oh and second of all, would you be willing to let anyone else take over your abandoned project?

    Re: Mooservers.com - awakening?

Hi im talkin about 100Mbit. These are dedicated Dell Dual Xeon servers 3.2 GHZ (4 CPU's) 2GB RAM. Yes, directly on the AMSIX, that is about the biggest internet entry for our counry. I have a partner in business who owns a big part of it. He actualy provides for ISPs. Its that i don't want todo all the support but if i really would i could be an ISP. In fact im already, but that is just for webhosting, not internet. Which brings me back at Moo Hosting, its a small step for me to make... but i don't make it if its going to costs me :-)

    Re: Mooservers.com - awakening?

Ah you fool!!! So much work lost . Oh well, so is no one else interseted in this then? It's not an expensive cost to pay for a server.

Are you able to make this payable monthly, as in people don't have to lump out the full 12 months payment straight away?
