    Slow down

    Hi,
I'm experiencing a massive slowdown in all mfa files I have here. I'm using MMF2 build 246, running Windows XP. In a first moment, I though I messed up a project, since the FPS dropped from 50 to 20-21. Then I opened other .mfa projects I started some time ago, but they're all running at 20-21fps, being inside of MMF or compiled into .exe. I ran .exe files compiled months ago, and they're running at 20 FPS! I've searched the forum to check if anyone had similar problem but didn't find anything. I reinstalled MMF2 and the issue remains. I haven't installed anything new that could cause this... the only thing I've found to go back to 'normal' is to use independent machine speed, but it make some 'flicks'... any thoughts?

    thanks in advance

Hmmm, that is weird - does task manager show anything eating up your CPU time?

    Re: Slow down

Right, well that's perfectly normal. 21fps is a massive slowdown. I wonder if System Restore might help, if you set the machine back say a few weeks.

I don't think there's much point testing the files on another computer. Since all of them are running slowly I don't think there can be anything wrong with them.

    Re: Slow down

Hi Crash86, thanks for your help. Just a quick update before I try the system restore; I reinstalled MMF2, tried again (build is 239 or something), .mfa files run at normal speed but some features based on inputs (like click and go to next frame) was disabled (probably a conflict like .MFA programmed in latest build, and I hadn't installed any update yet. Then I installed the latest build, MFA files run slooww.. again

    edit: same with build 245

    Re: Slow down

Oh right! Don't thank me yet - I haven't managed to help you to a solution.

Do any of the slow applications have any extensions in common by any chance? I know that MMF2's ability to use certain extensions is altered directly after updating from the version on the CD.

Did you update MMF2 at any point before this slowness started occurring?

    Re: Slow down

hmmm wait. I tried an old platform engine and it played at 50fps. I removed MMF2 from computer, deleted everything, and re-installed, and installed the MMF2 again, and the 246 build. The slowness started suddenly, without giving any clue. I guess the files I tried before the platform engine doesn't have any extension in common (they don't use any). Seems like something happened on this computer since I can run compiled versions on other machine at regular FPS, but I wonder what could cause such slow fps.

    Re: Slow down

You could start wtih running MSCONFIG. Turn off all the background apps that startup with Winodows. Reboot and see what happens with the FPS of your MMF2 games.

If that clears up the problem, you will have to troubleshoot the list of applications. That could take trial and error, (turn one on at a time and reboot) or you may be able to figure out what might be affecting it by the nature of the applications involved.

That seems like a good place to start, at least.

    Re: Slow down

Hi Novabrain, I think it could something related to my system and specific events... maybe memory leak? I picked the MFA, deleted everything, left remaining two events. The ball application still runs at 20 FPS. Ok, I copied the two objects, went to a new application, remade the two events of original application and now what..? 50 FPS. Very, very weird. The applications I tried before the platform engine had similar events.. anyway, I wonder what could be causing slowdown in two distinct applications

    Re: Slow down

Are you shure you do not have a big object with a ink effect? Some of the ink effetcts did not work on previous versions of the runtime on objects like active picture. This could explain why the slowdown is on the latest version only...
