Non-existing direction

This is kind of an odd question.

Is there any way for MMF2 to detect whether there is no graphic in a certain direction (when it is forced to snap to the nearest direction's graphic). Or alternatively, is it possible to turn this snapping off?

No there is not a way to do that other than testing for directions you know have no direction animation.
So if your object lacks animation for 4, 6, and 9, then you can just test for those movement directions.
