    WAV not working.

This issue is driving me up the wall. There is a WAV sound clip I want to put into my game, so in the Event Editor I go into Samples, Play Sample, Browse (From another application) and select the WAV file. Then MMFD2 tells me it's an "Unknown format!" WAV files are supposed to work, right?

What's going on, and what should I do?

    Re: WAV not working.

Try changing (probably lowering) the resolution of the wav.

Go for 16bit and 22khz and it should work.

    Re: WAV not working.

Err, at least 44khz is required for a descent sound quality.

I've tried lots of samples in MMF2, and 16-bit 44khz stereo samples works (and anything below). Besides, as MMF2 does realtime resampling, even a 96khz sample should work perfectly fine. Only a higher bit depth than 16 would cause it not to work, and that's not very common unless the samples are intended to be used by musicians with high quality demands.

I believe that this is the case of an incompatible wav header, it can happen when it's being saved in certain audio editors that doesn't fully follow the .wav standards. This can result in the file not being possible to open in some software. I recommend that you open the sample in another audio editor, and save the file without making any changes. That will cause the audio editor to rewrite the wav header (as well as the rest of the file content).

Nifflas, what audio editor do you recommend?

    Rick, I'm not sure how to change the resolution of the file; I'm not extraordinarily tech-savvy. -_-;;

Anything should do. I can't see a reason to change the sample rate though... Try just saving it with anything else. Audacity perhaps?

    What build are you using?

If you try one of the Wav files provided on the second CD, does it play that?

    Thanks

Can you upload one of the .wav's that doesn't work btw? I can figure out what's wrong.

One thing that i do is when i have a music file i want to upload into a game i use Audacity. When you open the file in Audacity click file and go down to export as OGG Vorbis. Go to http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ to download Audacity

    Re: WAV not working.

As far as I'm aware, MMF2 can't load/open ADPCM wave files. The file you're trying to load could be ADPCM, rather than PCM. You should be able to convert this with the most simple software out there on the net.

MMF2 can play ADPCM wav files.
