    Light in a dark room

Hmm well I've been discussing this topic in the chat and no one seems to feel the need to help me... So i have three objects. A character a light and a big dark object(darkness) i want it so that when the player walks under the light he is visible but when he is not under the light you cannot see him.

I used to know how to do this but i have forgotten. I know it is possible with some combination of ink effects. (Please do not tell me to make a big object with a hole where i want the light to be....)

    Thanks in advance
    /Falkon\

Well there are various ways to do it. Using gradients, and such. If you have experience in Adobe Photo Shope and working with 3D programs that would help. Good methods are to use a bright colored gradient, and make it additive, then subtract it from a dark active overlay.

Or you could use alpha transparency like in Flash.

Lighting is important, it's used in every movie, it adds to the suspensful atmosphere of the entertainment. Lighting is as much a character in a game as the actual characters themselves, as well as music and sound.

thanks for your responses but i am afraid neither is what i wanted. Paul your method wont work because i have backgrounds i want behind the light too that are much bigger than the light. Also I'm having a stage where the player has a flashlight thus i believe neither of your ways would work. I know it deals with the and ink effect. i forgot though
