rpg with mmf2 and 3d map

    hi guys an help
i'm making a rpg and i'd like the mode7ex world of ff7 for psx, now i've tried with mode7ex and it's too slowly.. now ... a couple of year ago i had bought jamagic.. is it possible using it to make a sort of 3d map where a 2d character walk, or an airplane that fly to reach example a city.. it hasn't to be complex only event walk fly and reach the city (collision an go to frame in mmf2 regarding the town rached)

i bought jamagic but i've never used it... it's complex to make what i want or there is a sort of pre built level made by someone to edit and make this?

is it possible to make also a little 3d rally section like vrally for mobilephone? (camera beside the car)

thks a lot (one time i remember that i put a jamagic window inside mmf 1.5 but i'm not so sure)

    thks

That doesn't sound practical, besides, I have the feeling that once MMF2 supports hardware acceleration (it's supposed to be soon), this will be easier and eat less CPU.

In either case, I think FF7 used a 'proper' 3D engine with polygons for the world map if I don't rememer wrong. Wasn't the last FF game to use mode7 for SNES? In either case, I honestly think that the use of half-descent looking 3D graphics only made those games look worse. I'd do it the 'Chrono Trigger' style. In those days, people did things in 3D just because it was the latest technology, but looking back at it with the eyes of today, most people consider the 2D stuff of that era more beautiful, since it's appears flawless and alive (no 3D = no obvious low-resolution textures, polygons, etc).

Just to comment on what Nifflas said, I for some reason value as much that low-polygon 3d look (like Xenogears, Magic Carpet or Dungeon Keeper) than the oldschool 2d graphics. Newer "awe-striking" graphics are not my style, I guess.

yes i't sounds ok... the problem is one .. the game in pre rendred graphic made by vue d'esprit also if the characters are toon style (made bt toon boom studio ) so a 2d map painted with paint in pixel art will be great but i think it will collide with the ingame graphic :?!
mode 7ex was the ideal solution but it's not compatible with the next hw accellerator of mmf..

    i'll study something
