[B248] Java Applets and Macs

Well I figured I'd try out the new Java features, I only have MMF2 Standard however. So I built my application as a java applet and ran it through my web browser and it worked great! Except... Everything that should have been transparent was black.

I don't know if it's even meant to be supported under OS X yet but just thought I'd let you all know.

I think Java will be fully supported on Mac's only when Java 6 will be available on these machines, next year.

Like Yves said, Java on the Mac is only up to version 5 now, which is capable of running Java 6 applications but with some features missing (transparency being one of them, apparently).

A beta of Java 6 for the Mac is apparently available, but I don't know where to get it.

Yes, it is available, I found it yesterday:

But it runs only under Tiger and it doesn't run under Leopard...

Darn, well I can't use it then. Everything else seemed to work ok, so it won't be much (if any) work to get it running well on macs once Java 6 is out.

I think the above mac link is still v5.0. It's just an update. It's the same version built-in to leopard right now.

The beta of Java 6 was released yesterday on the Apple Developers Connection, so this should help a little...
