""a hardware I/O error was reported..."

I saved my game last night, and when I attempted to open it back up this morning I get the error:
"a hardware I/O error was reported while accessing an unnamed file"
and it fails to open the document. Might anyone know what this means, or what I can do?
    Thanks for the help

if your using vista, right click on the MMF2 shortcut and click Run as Administrator, else sounds like a currupt file or problem with the storage hardware

Sorry, I am not using VIsta anymore, so it must be something else.
Why would a file just become corrupt like that? Should I now fear my saved projects becoming corrupt?
    Thanks

Re: ""a hardware I/O error was reported..."

"Hardware I/O Error" means it had a problem talking to the disk your file is on. This could be the disk is faulty, that part of the disk that some or all of the file is on is corrupt, or that any other part of your pc is faulty and just happened to cause issues with the disk.

Generally the first stop after an I/O type error is to check the disk for errors with CheckDisk (formerly ScanDisk). In "My Computer", right-click on the disk and go to properties. Then Tools, Error-checking, "Check Now...". Tick both options. If it's your system disk (C, you'll need to agree to restart your pc and wait through that scan outside of Windows.

Generally disk problems happen when people don't shut their pc down properly (which may not be their fault, eg bluescreen), followed by skipping the disk check.
