    stdrt.exe - temp directory changeable?

Does MMF2 Dev have the ability to change the folder location of the temp files loaded during run?

I get a mrt5c.tmp folder within my users local settings temp folder containing unpacked mfx extensions and stdrt.exe.

I'd would like to change the mrt5c.tmp folder location to the standalones app directory. Reasoning example: for a USB flash drive G:\MyApp\temp\mrt5c.tmp\extensions.mfx

    Is this possible?

Don't think so, and as you'll always have read/write access to the temp folder, probably unnecessary.

Re: stdrt.exe - temp directory changeable?

Thanks for reply - interesting, the none compression did remove the stdrt.exe but the temp folder and extensions where still unpacked along with mmfs dll.

My thinking is a stealth standalone that leaves little or no trace, nothing bad going on here .

For example a standalone for a usb flash drive. With their popularity, it would be a good way to take games, applications to other computers and play without system restrictions.

I'm not up on all computer security concerns, but there will be a time that would restrict a portable game to access the users temp folder. So a true standalone won't require unpacking access to it.

So a true stealth standalone application would really be fun for kids, students etc, to carry around with them without worries of limited computer restrictions.

    What do you think Clickteam?

I doubt you'll come across a situation where you can't write to the temp directory.

Re: stdrt.exe - temp directory changeable?

I agree about the temp folder, but a true standalone would make things simple for usb flash drive game players.

I'm also not up on Vista, but from what I've been ready here, it does have more restrictions on what is installed. For example the installed app can no longer write to the program files installed folder.

It may be a rewrite for Dev, hopefully not.

Re: stdrt.exe - temp directory changeable?

Why would it make any difference for USB flash drive game players?

    I am running Vista.

Yes it won't make a difference.

I make apps that run off a CD without an install to the users hard drive and have never had a problem.

Re: stdrt.exe - temp directory changeable?

thanks guys for the replies. Just thinking ahead.

I created a Bible program that runs from the usb flash drive.

    http://www.trendybible.com

As we well known, many countries forbid any form of biblical media with dangerous consequences. The need for stealth in this case is important.

I really didn't want to mention this but there is a need here and was hoping that there may be interest via gaming using a usb, but my ploy didn't work. I have added a warning that my usb Bible install does require access to the systems user temp folder.

    thanks again

I really don't see the problem. The user has ALWAYS the permission to write to the temp folder, even on limited accounts.
