    Java on PSP?

    Hi Clickfamily,

does anyone know if an MMF2-created *.jar will run on a Playstation Portable? Does PSP even support Java? If so, how?

Only with custom firmware... and the homebrew that is available will only run MIDlets as far as I know.

If I can recall, Sony hates homebrew, so chances are, you're going to need to find your way around the rules with this one. I don't think heading out to the nearest store, buying a PSP, and expecting your games to work on it, is an option.

Just the whole idea of MMF2 games running on a PSP is a bit of a fantsy. Maybe in the next 2 years, but who knows how the PSP will look and work then? And whats the point really? Your going to make commercial standard games for PSP with MMF?

    What are MiDlets?
    This is from Wikipedia:
A MIDlet requires a device that implements at least Java ME, CLDC and MIDP to run. Like other Java programs, MIDlets have a "compile once, run anywhere" potential. MIDlet distributions main file is a .jar file, but MIDlet distributions can also consist of a .jad file containing the location of and describing the contents of the .jar file. The implementation of a MIDlet may or may not require the presence of a .jad file.

A MIDlet has to fulfill the following requirements in order to run on a mobile phone:

The main class needs to be a subclass of javax.microedition.midlet.MIDlet
The MIDlet needs to be packed inside a .jar file (e.g. by using the jar-tool)
The .jar file needs to be pre-verified by using a preverifier.
In some cases, the .jar file needs to be signed by the mobile phone's carrier.

    Re: Java on PSP?

I've seen somewhere that a java virtual machine has been released for the PSP. So I think it will be possible to have games made with MMF2 for the PSP when the Java for mobile will be available.

Yeah, when Java for mobile (in MMF2) comes out, you'll be able to make games for PSP!
