Program icons in 256 and 16 colours

Anyone know if these need to be made in Websafe/Standard colours? Or could I use Octree or Median Cut to get a palette for them instead?

They should be in the windows standard palette.

Thanks guys. I've had my head down working to finish this project (3 years and counting...). Nearly there as you can see, else I wouldn't be worrying about the desktop icon

Whoa, three years?! What kind of project is it, if you don't mind me asking? A game?

Sort of a game, but also a therapy tool for stroke/brain injury survivors. Most of the work went into the graphics, and there was a long learning curve with that. The requirements kept changing as well.....
