    Day/Night Lighting Help

    Hey everyone.

I'm trying to make lighting in my game that changes at different times of day(Day/afternoon/night). So far im having a bit of trouble.. ;(

Here is what i have tried so far.

-Have a large active object follow the frame which constantly overlaps the viewing area. (Caused to much reduction in frame rate).

-Have a even larger active object position itself on the player every 1 second. (still to much lag).

-Use the colorizer extension (No idea how).

When trying to use the colorizer object i couldn't figure out how to make it overlap the play area and have faded colours. I found a help file for it (help button for colorizer lead to a HTML error) but it dosent really explain how to use it, just it's features.

So if anyone knows how to have the colorizer overlap the viewing area and change colours, i would really appreciate it.

Or if anyone has any good ideas as to how to do a good night/day lighting effect without causing a huge reduction in frame rate.

    Thanks heaps, Dylan.

If you are trying to use the Colorizer to make a light and dark effect, I would suggest looking at the example that comes with it, as it does show how to create a wide variety of effects.

    Re: Day/Night Lighting Help

Thanks for the reply Brandon, that did solve the colorizer problem. = )

Unfortunately though, colorizer dosent work well with scrolling. It causes even more frame rate reduction (from 35 down to 17).

Anyone have a brilliant idea to have a day/night time effect that can scroll without to much frame rate reduction? (allot to ask i know).

EDIT: Problem fixed, just ticked machine independent speed and seems to be working wonderfully = )

"Machine independent speed" allows more than one events update per graphics update if it's needed.
Basically without it on a slow pc your game will run slowly, with it it will run stutteringly instead (but at the right speed).

Have you tried making the active the size of the play area, not the whole frame, and unticking "follow the frame"?

Did you try making it a background instead of an active object, and place it into a layer above the frame and give the layer a co-efficient of 0,0?

No, iv never tried that before.

Can you (or someone else) please explain how to move backdrop to another layer. Also, does it have effects like semi transparency?

Thanks for the idea BrandonC = )

    Re: Day/Night Lighting Help

If you have the layers tool bar set to visible (View > Tool Bars > Layers) Then create a new layer with the + button. Layers are organized highest on the list is highest in object height. So a layer on layer 2 will show up over 1, 5 behind 6, and so on.

Click on the layer and anytime you create anything they will be on this layer. If you move objects around while this layer is selected though, the layer selected wont move, and objects moved around will stay within their layer.
To move objects from one layer to another, just click and drag the object out and over to the frame. It will seem as though you're repositioning the object, but as soon as you get it over the layer you want and let go, the object will not appear to move at all, but just change it's layer. Most noticable if you're moving an object from a back layer to a front, because any object that was previously over it, will not be behind it.

Anyway, I know this is ridiculusly long for a simple question, I'm just being as specific as I can.
