    MP3 as BG music

I was looking to add some BG music to my game but I noticed by default MMF2 looks for MIDI files when you browse for music files. Is there a way to use MP3's as BG music (the music is composed and performed by a friend of mine)?

you'd better convert it to OGG and play natively in MMF

It is sorry to say, but Bruto is right, you need to convert it. Otherwise, you'll have to wait until someone comes up with a way to play MP3s in MMF2 or MMFD2.

    Also --

There are 2 different sound playing terms

    Samples
    Music

You can play background music under the samples its not meaning just sound effects or similar.

Where you see the term "music" in the menu its just another term for MIDI type files.

So under samples you can play any WAV or OGG type of format.
See the list when you choose to play a sample for all the supported formats

I would suggest OGG as its the patent free version of MP3 and a quick google search can find you many converters and tools for producing OGG files.

This software is good for converting to ogg, and allows you do to some basic editing to sound files, too.

And if you must play MP3 then you can do it via the Direct Show extension as someone pointed out.

but the MP3 license holders may want some cash.

    Re: MP3 as BG music

I have a program ($50 or so) called Magix Music Maker 12 Deluxe that converts music that you make (or any that you have) into MP3, OGG and ect..., it depends if you want freeware, although freeware tends to have a single perpose per program (otherwise freeware would completely smother other compition, because it is free, what else is better). Where most others have multiple if you buy them at a store. I am not trying to convince you in any direction, just showing some options.

What the? I posted after you guys suggested the same thing, dang why does this happen to me?

I'd go with Audacity to convert it, like Nick said. It's easy, you just load in your mp3 and save it as an ogg.
