    fog of war

    greets
    I intend to make a simple rpg but it would require fog of war (darkness over non-explored zones)
    I'm sure it has been alrady asked before but I havent found anything like tutorials or such on this forum - do anybody know any example?

    Fog of war was designed for stratedgy games but seeing as you asked nicely.

    How i'd go about making fog of war is by using an active, this is black and you put them everywhere and when the player touches them, destroy them, oh and of course always bring them to front.

    That would be the worst, most CPU eating and bad-looking effect ever. Do NOT do that. I haven't made anything like this myself, but you might have some luck trying one of these extensions: http://ext.neatwares.ath.cx/list/Graphical/

    oh I can see that now (needs to be renamed example.mfa)

    that overlay method really works great, it also allows lots of cutomization - I think it's a good start
    Im trying to see if it's possible to have semi-transparent shapes too with semi-transparent mutiple overlays or something

    multiple overlays will slowdown a lot your game.
