    Read-Along Text

I am trying to create text in my application that highlights words as they are read by an audio file of someone reading the text.

I realize that I will have to manually figure out what time periods to highlight certain words in the text for, however....

I am having trouble figuring out how to create the text itself so that it can highlight.

If I use the formatted text object, the user probably won't have the font I would like to display, and the aliasing on the text will be somewhat cruddy looking.

Text Blitter is out of the question, because I can't use equal-sized characters - This would be great if I could define the spacing and size for each font character individually.

If I make the text on each page an image, and use either active objects or active picture objects, I can get the letter spacing and look exactly how I want it... but creating a different active object for each word seems.... crazy.... no?

Is there an elegant solution to this?

Possibly having 2 copies of the text as an image, one all highlighted and one all black that I can somehow use a mask to show only a small section of the highlighted text at once over the regular text? Is that even possible in MMF2?

Otherwise I may have to resort to a bounce-along ball. Looking for suggestions....

    Thanks,
    Andy

A quick idea based on what you said, though its a bit of a hassle.

Have a second set of text hidden (invisible) as a different color and then just make the other text invisible and the invisible text visible.

Of course that does mean alot of text. but its quite simple to do.

yeah-- i was trying to avoid having a separate object for each word in the text to highlight it... easy to do mind you, but really annoying as well.

    Re: Read-Along Text

Hey-- thanks for taking the time to make that. It isn't what I had originally intended (I had originally wanted only the currently read word being highlighted) But this is close enough. Besides... I can just make a third one that draws black back over the already read words and it would work great! Thanks!
