    How does Control X work?

    Start of frame -> set key for up and player 1 to...

    but what? I want to use the fire button 1 of player 1. I can enter a string such as "fire 1" or "button 1" but nothing happens.

    There is also the option to disable a key...disable current key of joystick 1 -> fire button 1 -> I always get a syntax error or that I can't mix string and number.

    How do you EITHER set up (player 1) to fire button 1 (player 1)

    OR totally disable up (player 1)?

    If I remember correctly, it's keyboard only. Sorry!
    But you can switch to use joystick using the built in action in MMF.

    Control-X is an alternative way of handling input from the keyboard - it doesn't have a concept of what the player objects's "Fire 1" button and so on are. Snail posted an example of using it for customizable controls recently:
