    Change resolution in Vista

    Hi,
I searched the forum but could not find any threads on this. I have 2 systems runnignvista and one XP. I created a program in MMF2 that changes resolution mode upon execution. On my Vista system that created the application and on my XP system, the screen switches resolution without any problem on execution. On my other Vista system, however, the program runs in window mode. I tried to add a Full Screen action on the first frame's Start of frame event, but this still doesn't work. The screen flashes and then runs in window mode. Both Vista systems have exactly the same video chipset and the User Account Control turned off. What mysterious thing is happening on my 2nd system? I notice that the program icons on the problem system have a small shield drawn on the lower right. I know that this has something to do with the problem, but how could this be removed. If I distribute my program to others using Vista, will they have the same windowed-problem as well?
I built my program with execution level Administrator in MMF2.

Any ideai would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Tom

Try letting the program run in Administrator mode and see what happens on the second machine. To do this right click your icon and edit properties to allow it to run as administrator or with xp compaibility. The shield mean "I need more privileges."

    Re: Change resolution in Vista

Yes, I tried that, but it still runs in a window. I even added a key to toggle from window to full mode at runtime. It works well on my main Vista and XP systems, but just flashes the screen on the 2nd Vista system. I set all the security clntrols exactly alike on both Vista systems! I know you might think I'm nuts, but they are set exactly the same. One thing I noticed is that the problem system has Norton installed, but auto-protection is off and the definitions have expired a while ago.
I am worried when i will have to distribute this progam to people qho have Vista, they won't want to turn off all their security just to make my program run in full screen!

I hate to say this but if the definitions have expired then this machine may have a trojan horse virus. Your other machines work because they are not infected.

Open up a browser and to to onecare.live.com and use their tools to do a scan of the system.

There is a horse virus that does what you descibe.

Thanks for the info. I'm doing the scan now, but I don't think that it's a virus since I have the commercial game "Forgotten Riddles" (written with MMF2) and it switches to full screen on startup.

    Re: Change resolution in Vista

Well check the virus and spyware issue first. Then if you still have issues let me know. Are you on broadband? If so I can have you download my helpdesk file and you can connect to me over the internet. Then I can see your screen and troubleshoot this better. I will not be able to connect to you. You have to connect to me for the software to work. If it not a trojan then it might just be a setting with the Norton. Seeing your screen will help so you can show me the problem. When the help session is over then the software is removed so nothing is left on you machine except the help file. Are you using different verions of Vista???

    Re: Change resolution in Vista

I finished running the full scan, and no problems were found. The system is clean and spyware/virus free. I am runnint the latest version of Vista (auto-update on). I'm on broadband. Norton is disabled on the system. I really appreciate all your help!
The only difference between the workinmh system and the non-working system is that the working one has MM2dev installed on it, the other one doesn't. Maybe this sets some register that lets Vista "trust" the executable compiled from MMF2dev. I don't know, just throwing around ideas over here! When all logical actions fail, start looking at illogical ones!

    Re: Change resolution in Vista

I may have ran into the same problem today. I need to verify. I also am using Vista for development. I send a app to a client and on XP no problem but on a laptop with Vista it ran in a Window. Let me check it tomorrow. I may have send the app with change resolution turn off but I don't think so.

The application did run however. Vista has caused me problems with other software I have tried to use do the security issues and so has Onecare. It just take some time to work them out but it usually works in the end.

    Re: Change resolution in Vista

Just try it on a 3rd computer and see if it occurs.

If a problem is not reproduceable then it won't be addressed, that goes for all kinds of support I've been involved in...

That means, if your file works on a 3rd machine, just pretend that your 2nd machine works well...

    Re: Change resolution in Vista

    The application did run however.
droberson: My application runs roo. The only problem is that it doesn't change resolution and go full screnn on my 2nd Vista system.

Bornemix: I just have to find someone with Vista to try it on. We are on XP at the school where i teach. I hate Vista

What really bugs me is that all my students who will use my program and have Vista will be playing it out of a window. Not very elegant.
