lower resolution problem of object animation

    greetings,

I animated a textured metalic ball in 3d studio max and generated animation for the rotation, I made 30 frames animation and exported the frames as PNG, the problem which I found out is in the final process, after I finished cropping all the frames in MMF2 I clicked "PLAY" in the Paint program that comes with MMF2 and it looked nice and smooth,
however, when I ran a test inside the application (after setting the ball movement to "Bouncing Ball") the animation looked blocky ! and that what happened as well when I replaced the ball in the tutorial that came with MMF2 (chocobreak break), I tried to see how the new replacement of the ball would look like, its animated but became ugly and blocky

can somebody help me where did I go wrong?

the settings (I switched around from 16.7 million colors to 32768 colors, but it doesn't seem to effect the over all apperance)
*I set it full-screen and window and still no smooth rotation of the ball.

    thanks in advance !!

Whats the resolution of your game? coz lot of my games are blocky in full screen mode, coz they are of very low resolution. My resolution average is 320 by 200.

Re: lower resolution problem of object animation

the width & height of the ball is 50

originally can be as high as I like (640x 480) or higher, i simply export it into frames then crop it.

when I play it, it looks smooth, but when I run it in the application and see the ball moves and bounces around its very blocky, I resized it to like 150x150 and still, even its larger than before but still blocky while moving around (I paused the application and there is no smoothing effect exist in the ball, its transparent when I crop it)

thats another good question that I was wondering around, in the paint program of MMF2 I simply click "Crop" and it does a great job determining the size of my texture dimensions, I wonder if everything I create should be in a higher resolution so when its switched full-screen it would look right ?

Re: lower resolution problem of object animation

one of the problems got solved !!!

when I removed "Automatic Rotation" the ball looked better! however I still can't see my smooth animation, its blury still when the ball moves around.

as of now, I will increae the animation of the ball to 30 frames (which i feel it it isn't supposed to be higher than that..) just to see if the animation would look sharper.

if there is any other solution to my problem I would be more than happy to hear it! I just can't stop working, I have been working on this project for the past 4 hours, 2 more hours to go then I am off for today!
    thanks

Re: lower resolution problem of object animation

    Greetings all,

I continued working in the ball animation but it doesn't help at here.

here is the real problem that I am seeing,

anything thats moves on the screen will blur and if it moves fast it will blur very hard and hurts the eyes if you look at it. it might be fine for the first few minutes but it really hurts!

I played a couple of commerical games and I saw the animation continues to be smooth with no blur effect at all, things would rotate, bounce, fall qickly and still the frames are smooth. (I wonder if MMF2 requires some trick, special object to disable it)

    I tried the following:

    * I added another layer into my scene (which isn't visable by default and it doesn't help)
    * I made 50 frames for my ball animation, it runs extremely smooth if you just play it without moving around, but when it bounce on screen and move hurts the eyes and hardly you can see the animation thats been made!
    * I played with the background (Added Gradient color, solid black color in the background) and that didnt help
    * I added Anti-aliasing and no difference.
    * I changed the frames per second on the application (to 30, 60) 30fps just slow things down but the blur effect still exist.

so how do they do it in the commerical games?? I checked CY-Clone and it looks nice and smooth! how can we do this?? anything that moves on screen just blurs too much!! this isn't right.

this really stops the development of my game at the moment (after spending so many days and hours creating animations and finally I found out about this disaster )

    please help!

    and thanks!!

Re: lower resolution problem of object animation

Are you using HWA (hardware acceleration) ?

If so, the new rotations sometimes look blurred. It happens to me sometimes but my animations are really small so you can't really tell the difference.

If you're not using HWA then it looks terrible with rotations!

Re: lower resolution problem of object animation

    hello Dynamite!

well, I dont know if I am, I downloaded bonus pack1,2, z33z extention and LIJI and finally updated my MMF2D to build 248.

Is it somewhere in the application to enable it? (I didnt play with all the objects yet or know how to use them either).

If what I have downloaded includes HWA can you tell me the steps to enable it?
if not, how can I get it and use it please

No the packs don't include HWA. To download HWA use this link: http://www.clickteam.com/epicenter/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=74202&fpart=1

To enable HWA simply follow the picture:

Re: lower resolution problem of object animation

wow, big gain using the hardware acceleration. I didnt know about it until now.

I wish many of the fixes would be done (like the full-screen option)

Its a definite advantage for the speed. I will try to work it out, thanks dynamite
