Change look of particles in Particle Effects?

I may be missing something very obvious here but is it possible to change the looks of the particles in the Particles effects object?

I have perfect settings for the effect of water pooring from a faucet. I'm using the "snow" version and want to change the particles to look more water like.

Any advice appreciated.

If you mean my extension and not Nifflas' examples-

The reason the extension runs so fast is that each of the particles is just a single pixel. It doesn't need to render any images. Unfortunately, this means you can't change the look of the particles Sorry.
