    Music creating software?

Is it possible to make an MMF2 application that works like a step sequencer - for example: Fruity Loops - and has the ability to export the song as one .wav or .mp3 file?

If not, would it be possible to have the user plug in an audio cord, going from their headphone jack to the microphone jack, and then use MMF2 to block out all sounds except for those coming from the application, and then use the Microphone extension to record the sounds being played and then save that recording as a single file?

(lots of stuff asked here, lemme consolidate it...)

    - Can MMF2 compile sounds together to create a single sound file (like a step-sequencer)?

    - Can MMF2 block out all sounds EXCEPT those coming from the application?

    - Can the Microphone extension handle files up to, lets say 15 minutes in length?

    - Can the Microphone extension export it's recordings as a .mp3?

oh, I thought of one more:

    - Can the Microphone extension work in Stereo (when used as described above)?

If it was possible it would take a lot of work and may require some custom extensions to be created. I don't know how your going to save this wav file your exporting.. Maybe an activeX control exists?

Have you tried anything yet or just wanting someone else to try all the above things and then report to you if they work or not and what problems they encountered?

You can prob. create a step-sequencer drum machine. It would prob. be based on 16-steps and code focusing on tempo. I thought about creating one for fun. I believe mmf2 can handle multiple samples, but i would like to see if it could handle 10 drum sounds playing at once.

    Re: Music creating software?

I haven't tried anything yet, no. I was mostly just wondering if it was possible before I jumped into it (plus I've been working extra hours this week and have little time to program). I obviously don't want someone to create something /for/ me, I was just curious if this has been done before. I've already created a very simple step-sequencer, but it can only save as a .ini file coupled with the .wavs you use. I don't think it's possible in MMF2 to export this data as an actual music file, at least as far as I know. I haven't used the Microphone extension before, but I could probably answer some of these questions myself by experimenting... I was just curious if any of this had been done before, and if anyone had these answers before I began working on trying to make it myself.

I'll take a look at what I can do tomorrow... for now, sleep.
