    Zoom In towards specific object

I've tried searching for different extensions/functions that allows the camera to "Zoom" in towards an object, and zoom back out. I tried using Viewport but it involved some nasty work arounds and such.

If that is the only method, then I'll use viewport + windows control etc workaround. Anyone have a better solution to simply zoom the camera towards an object then zoom away?

viewport + windows control would be pretty much the only way. It doesn't have any slowdown as long as you are zooming in from your normal window size, but if you try zooming a 5000x5000 area into your 640x480 window, you will experience massive slowdown during the transitions, making smooth zooming impossible (but instant zooming still viable)

HWA shouldn't have any affect on it

You could use the zoom ink effect on the game layer... it's pretty much made for this.
